OPL #03-2026 Customer Service Librarian Full-time Temporary – 1 Position
Under the direction of the Branch Manager, this position will assist with pro-active and information services and assist with the collection development and maintenance.
Job Title: Customer Service Librarian
Hourly Rate: $36.84 – $39.03
Reports to: Branch Manager
Location: McLaughlin Branch
Length of Contract: 6 months
Hours: 35 hours per week. To regularly work evenings and weekends at any of our 4 branches.
General Description of Duties:
- Engages with customers to identify, address and deliver their unique information, entertainment, and technology needs.
- Provides pro-active customer and information service.
- Provides in-depth Readers Advisory service, connecting customers to the collection.
- Assists with developing and delivering programs for all ages.
- Assists with collection development, maintenance and evaluation.
- Assists with displays and promotion of the library collection.
- Assists with the planning and delivery of outreach.
- Collaborates with the public service team to recommend service initiatives and opportunities that best address customers’ needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- This position is required to take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of the health and safety of the worker.

- Possess a natural affinity for working with the public.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs of the changing demographics in our community.
- Diplomatic and collaborative, with demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to train individuals and groups with excellent oral, presentation and writing skills.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Advanced technological literacy.
- High level of motivation, initiative, and responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability in setting priorities, monitoring projects, and ensuring follow-through.
- Ability to uphold and promote the values of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in their work
Physical Skills and Working Conditions:
This position requires keyboarding, handling of materials, pushing/pulling trucks, physical set up of programs, packing and unpacking boxes, working at the service points and dealing with difficult customer behaviour.
Required Qualifications & Education:
- A Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences or equivalent from a school accredited by the American Library Association (A.L.A.).
- 1-2 years related experience in a public or school library.
- A Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the Employer is required for this position.

Compensation: $36.84 / hour
