Your Opportunity

Under the general direction of the Director of Library Services, is responsible for coordinating and participating in the delivery of Penticton campus Library reference and instruction services, supervising Penticton Library support staff, and representing the Library in working with campus teaching staff, administration, and support units and in campus committees. Other duties include collection development, liaison with one or more instructional departments, participation in Library committees, collaboration with other Librarians, Library-wide projects, professional development, service, and may include scholarly activity.

Functions and Duties

1. Coordinates Library public services (reference, instruction, circulation, etc.) on the Penticton campus

2. Supervises Penticton Library support staff

3. Provides reference services, in person, by phone, by email, and in a real time virtual environment

4. Prepares and delivers in class instruction to students

5. Prepares research guides and tutorials and guides on the use of Library collections and services, using a variety of media and formats

6. Acts as liaison to one or more instructional departments to ensure that Library collections and services meet instructional and student needs and prepares course/program collection assessments and program review/accreditation Library reports for liaison departments

7. Participates in the development of the Library collection by working with the Collections and Cataloguing Librarian and departmental Library representatives to plan for resource needs and to select books, media and other materials

8. Contributes to planning and development of Library policies and procedures by participating in the Library Management Committee

9. Represents the Library in working with campus teaching staff, administration, and support units and in campus committees and activities

10. Engages in professional development activity intended to promote subject area and technical competence in librarianship and information science

11. Engages in service activities that support the College and/or the profession and/or the community

12. If requested and approved, may engage in scholarly activity, which may include scholarship, research and creative activity

13. Other related Librarian duties.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum qualification is a Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited institution.Experience in the provision of library instruction and reference services
  • Experience assisting library users, in-person and virtually, with both print and electronic resources, including creating instructional materials in a variety of formats
  • Recent experience in an academic library is preferred
  • Supervisory experience is preferred
  • Collection development experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Familiar with, and supportive of, new and emerging technologies in library services; comfortable in a computerized environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to promote contact and communication among students and faculty
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, to assist in the delivery of library services
  • Ability to work with people of diverse educational and socio-cultural backgrounds
  • Strong organizational skills in managing multiple activities and working under time constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in a variety of situations, across a diversity of subjects and program levels, and using a variety of methods, including active learning

Some evening and weekend work may be required.——

Desired Start Date: 08/01/2025
Position End Date (if temporary): 07/31/2026

Schedule
35 hours per week; Monday-Friday typically, 8:00-4:00, 8:30-4:30, or 9:00-5:00. Some evenings may be required from time to time.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 with normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.

Appointment Type: Faculty – Full-time Term

  • This is a non-instructional faculty term position covering for a one-year leave.
  • Having access to a vehicle would be an asset as this position does travel to other campuses (usually Kelowna) from time to time.
