Work Status: Full-Time, Temporary Contract

Location: Kelowna, BC (On-site)

About the Role:

Global News Okanagan is looking for two (2) temporary, full-time Video Journalists to join the Global News team in British Columbia.

One contract is for one (1) year, and the second is for six (6) months.

Reporting to the Managing Editor for Global BC, this position will include a variety of shifts including weekdays, with occasional mornings, evenings and weekends.

This is a Group 5 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by:

The following is an outline of some but not all the primary functions and responsibilities for this position:

  • Shooting, editing, and reporting on a wide range of stories, from breaking news to features.
  • Generating and crafting original stories daily, including breaking news.
  • Demonstrating strong proficiency in news judgment, writing, shooting, and editing.
  • Monitoring other news sources and generating original material for Global News and online platforms.
  • Presenting live on a variety of platforms including on-air, webcam and live blogs.
  • Driving a considerable amount, including long distances.
  • Handling the demands and pressure of multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines.
  • Other duties as required.
     

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Minimum of 1 year of TV reporting, shooting and editing in a small/medium television market.
  • Degree or diploma in Broadcast Journalism or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Working knowledge of how major news organizations employ a wide range of digital platforms and formats.
  • Self-starter with a can-do attitude and a proven ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Solid news judgment and editorial experience.
  • Ability to report live in breaking news situations.
  • Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows, as well as learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation.
  • Ability to write/produce web, text and manage content through social media.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
