About the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA):

The Canada Revenue Agency’s mission is to promote compliance with Canada’s tax legislation through communication, quality service, and responsible enforcement. CRA administers tax and other legislation for the Government of Canada and most provinces/territories. As well, CRA is responsible for various social and economic benefit and incentive programs delivered through the tax system. The  Agency operates at national headquarters, regional, and local levels.

About the Knowledge & Research Program (KRP):

KRP offers centralized research services to CRA staff nationwide, focusing on current and emerging areas of interest such as company/business, industry, legal, and tax research. Our team uses premium databases and resources to support informed decision-making across the Agency.

Student Position Overview:

We are seeking motivated  students to join the Knowledge & Research Program and contribute to our program service delivery.  You will assist CRA staff by conducting research using subscribed databases and Internet resources, including tasks such as valuing historical motor vehicle prices and tracing individuals’ assets in the United States. Throughout your placement, you will receive comprehensive training and supervision from experienced KRP research specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

You will:

Conduct comprehensive and detailed research in accordance with KRP’s established research guidelines and service standards, utilizing subscribed databases and reliable Internet resources to effectively meet clients’ information needs.

Provide prompt, precise, and insightful research support focused on asset tracing and the accurate valuation of motor vehicles.
Apply information literacy principles and best practices from  library and information science to improve accuracy and efficiency throughout the research process.

Proactively collaborate with team members and stakeholders to consistently deliver high-quality research service to KRP clients.
Maintain clear, professional communication and uphold the highest standards of integrity to enhance client satisfaction and support operational excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of at least one term in a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program
  •  Previous research or reference experience in a business or legal library setting is preferred
  • Experience with database and Internet searching in a professional environment is an asset
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is preferred but not mandatory

Conditions of Employment:

  • Security Clearance: Reliability-level security clearance must be obtained prior to the placement offer. CRA will assist successful candidates with the clearance process.
  • Proof of Status: Applicants invited for an interview must bring proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or landed immigrant status.
  • Reference Checks: References are required, and reference checks will be conducted.
  • On-site Work: This position requires on-site work at the CRA office, in accordance with the minimum requirements outlined in the CRA’s On-Site Presence Policy.
  • Commuting: If you are residing elsewhere than within a commuting distance from the CRA office location listed above, you will not be reimbursed for any mileage and/or travel time related to commuting into the office.
