St. Albert Public Library is seeking a strategic Director of Service Infrastructure to lead the technology, facilities, and materials handling operations that support our two busy library
locations. Reporting to the CEO and serving on the Leadership Team, this role oversees the systems and spaces that keep library services running—ensuring our infrastructure is reliable, secure, and ready to meet the needs of a growing community.

The Role
The Director of Service Infrastructure leads the teams responsible for the systems and operations that support library service delivery, including:
• Information Technology – oversight of the Library’s technology environment, including the integrated library system, networks, public computing, cybersecurity, and digital platforms.
• Facilities Coordination – management of facility operations within two leased library locations, including landlord coordination, building systems oversight, preventative maintenance, and lifecycle planning for equipment and leasehold improvements.
• Materials Handling & Logistics – leadership of the teams responsible for ordering, receiving, cataloguing, processing, and preparing library materials, and for ensuring the efficient internal movement of collections.
The Director supervises department specialists across these areas and is responsible for building high-performing teams, setting operational standards, and ensuring infrastructure systems support reliable and responsive library services.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead strategic planning for the Library’s service infrastructure portfolio.
• Deliver technology, facilities, and operational projects on time and within budget.
• Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for technology, facilities, and materials operations.
• Ensure reliable and secure technology systems that support staff and patrons.
• Improve operational efficiency through automation, workflow improvements, and data- informed decision-making.
• Build and support high-performing teams across infrastructure and operational services.
• Provide analysis and recommendations to the CEO and Board on infrastructure investments, risks, and opportunities.
What You Bring
• Demonstrated experience overseeing library technology systems, including integrated library systems (ILS), digital platforms, networks, and core IT infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity, system reliability, and technology lifecycle planning in a service environment.
• Experience coordinating facilities operations in leased environments, including working with landlords or service providers, managing building systems or contracts, and planning for equipment replacement or leasehold improvements.
• Knowledge of library operations and materials handling workflows, including acquisitions, cataloguing, processing, and movement of collections.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex priorities and support teams through change
Preferred Qualifications
• MLIS or equivalent combination of education and experience in infrastructure, technology, facilities, or operations leadership.
• Five years progressively responsible leadership and supervisory experience in a library, not-for-profit or municipal government environment with a focus on IT systems.
• Project management training, certification or equivalent experience.
• Experience managing technology procurement, vendor relationships, or service contracts.
Position Details
Salary: $112,689-135,890
Hours: Full-time (36 hours/week)
Location: St. Albert, Alberta
Schedule: Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Work from home opportunities available.
This position requires a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
