Reference and Information Literacy Instruction Librarian (6-month Sabbatical Replacement )

Brandon University is seeking a dedicated and collegial librarian for a full-time, term appointment as Reference and Information Literacy Instruction Librarian. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Reference and Information Literacy Instruction Librarian will provide one-on-one reference, reference appointments as well as information literacy instruction to all programs, students, and faculty of Brandon University. The role will support the evaluation and potential implementation of new and innovative library tools including AI-based instruction and research methods. The successful candidate will also serve as liaison librarian to the Faculty of Education.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coordinate and deliver one-on-one and appointment-based reference services. Collaborate with the Circulation Supervisor to coordinate scheduling of Library Assistants who provide reference services (in-person or virtually).
- Support the evaluation and implementation of ethical AI-based ways of doing library research
- Coordinate and deliver information literacy instruction, tours, and workshops especially to Arts, Science, and Education Faculties.
- Serving as liaison librarian to the Faculty of Education, including cultivation of collegial and collaborative professional relationships with Education faculty, students, and staff.
- Performing collection management activities for Education and other subject areas in collaboration with other liaison librarians.
- Maintaining awareness of emerging librarianship trends, technologies, and initiatives in reference and information literacy (especially as it pertains to AI) and evaluation of their usefulness to the local environment
- Participation in projects within the library system, including digitization and preservation initiatives
- Per Article 14.5.1 of the BUFA Collective Agreement:
o Pursuing and engaging in professional development opportunities
o Engaging in research, scholarship, and creative activities
o Engaging in service, including participation in Library Council, and representing the Library on professional and scholarly association committees, task forces, working groups, and other entities at the local, regional, and national level as appropriate to the position and area of expertise. - Performing other professional duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer through consultation with the incumbent.

Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will have an MLIS degree or equivalent. Applicants may seek to establish an
experiential/traditional equivalency to these qualifications and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials. A second master’s degree is an asset. - Evidence of strong customer service skills and the ability to work independently and as a collegial part of the John E. Robbins Library team is required.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive, effective, collaborative, and professional work relationships is required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
- Experience in an academic library, experience in the provision of reference services and information literacy instruction, are required.
- Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.

Salary: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Compensation: $73,925 – 145,361
