Job Summary
Setting: Located on the traditional La̱xyuubm Ts’msyen (Tsimshian Territories), the City of Terrace is located in northwestern British Columbia. Terrace Public Library (TPL) serves the 23,500 residents of the City of Terrace, Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (Electoral Area C, Part 1 and Electoral Area E), Kitselas First Nation, Kitsumkalum First Nation, and the Nisga’a villages of Gingolx, Gitwinksihlkw, Laxgalts’ap, and Gitlaxt’aamiks.
The Terrace Public Library has recently completed a space needs assessment, and is in the early phases of planning for significant space redesign.
Overview:
The Deputy Library Director plays a key role in coordinating and ensuring high quality library services. This role has direct oversight and responsibility for library programs for all ages. The role also includes the management of collections and services for children and young adults.
Core Responsibilities:
Management
- Assumes the duties of the Library Director in their absence
- Develops schedules for staff and service points
- Assists the Library Director with reporting and policy development
- Participates in strategic management activities as required
- Manages spending within assigned budget areas
- Manages the training for the Pages
Collection
- Responsible for curating, managing and maintain the Library’s children’s and young adult collections
- Plans and coordinates collection displays
Programming and Community Relations
- Coordinates programs for all ages
- Develops standards for program design, delivery, promotion
- Train and coaches staff in effective program design and delivery
- Evaluates programs for effectiveness, attendance and patron satisfaction
- Builds relationships with community groups and represents the library in community events
Library Services
- Develops standards to ensure the library is well organized, and library materials are shelved correctly
- Provides enhanced reference and readers advisory support for children and youth collection
Supervision
- Programmer

Qualifications and Experience:
- MLIS or Library Technician Diploma and three to five years related library experience
- Minimum two years’ in a public library including delivering services to children and young adults, and planning and delivering programs
- Ability to train and coach staff
- Ability to coordinate and oversee library services to young adults
- Ability to coordinate programming, including creating an annual programming plan and manage the quality and consistency of library programs
- Knowledge of program and collection evaluation principles
- Strong relationship skills, including the ability to build positive partnerships in the community
- Supervisory skills, including the ability to hire, direct, evaluate and supervise staff within a unionized environment
Job Details:
Hours of work: This is a permanent full-time/ salary position. Occasional evenings and weekends are required
Compensation: $38.00-$40.00 per hour
