Division: Global Network News

Work Status: Full-Time

Location: 81 Barber Greene Road, Toronto, ON (Onsite)

About the Role:

Global News is seeking a creative, detail-oriented full-time Producer to join our Network News team in Toronto. This is an exciting opportunity for a journalist with a passion for health and business news, strong editorial judgment, and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom environment. In this role, you’ll take the lead in producing our daily OTT segments Health Matters and Business Matters, from story development to scripting and final delivery. You’ll also contribute to Global National, our digital platforms, and affiliates across Canada. This position reports to the Network Managing Editor and falls under Group 3 of the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by:

Segment Production (Daily):

  • Produce and write Health Matters and Business Matters segments daily, curating four compelling stories for each.
  • Source and pitch relevant story ideas from wires, press releases, editorial partnerships, and competitors.
  • Script and format content using Open Media (OM) and ensure all elements are filed accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate closely with on-air reporters to align visuals, voiceovers, and timely segment delivery.
  • Edit and prepare supporting content: shortened versions of each segment and two OC VOs per day.
  • Write two 40-second business radio voicers for national distribution.

Cross-Platform & Collaborative Contributions:

  • Join the daily 9:00 a.m. editorial call with NND and online video teams to align content strategy.
  • Distribute daily email summaries of segment plans, edits, and work-ahead assignments.
  • Occasionally produce short-form digital content (e.g., YouTube Shorts) with a mobile-first, platform-aware lens.
  • Assist reporters with packaging stories for affiliates and Global National, ensuring editorial consistency.
  • Support expert outreach and guest coordination for reporter-led segments.

Other Editorial Duties:

  • Maintain regular communication with editors, assignment desks, and the Resources team.
  • Adapt quickly to breaking news and editorial changes, updating scripts and segments as needed.
  • Occasionally support live coverage and control room production when required.

Skills and experience you bring:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in journalism or broadcast media.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a major market newsroom or equivalent editorial setting.
  • Strong editorial instincts and a deep understanding of Canadian health and business issues.
  • Exceptional writing and scripting skills tailored to broadcast.
  • Proficient in Open Media, with familiarity in tools such as Viz, Dalet, and ENPS.
  • Solid grasp of visual storytelling, video structure, and pacing.
  • Experience with multi-platform content production is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • A collaborative team player with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable navigating shifting priorities in a dynamic news cycle.
