Are you a progressive and dynamic professional communicator looking for your next challenge? IATSE Local 873 is looking for an experienced Communications Coordinator to join our Communications Department. The successful candidate will work closely with the Communications Manager to work on the communications activity of IATSE 873, supporting diverse audiences and campaigns.

Communications Coordinator

Reporting to: Communications Manager

Hours: Weekdays, Weekends and evening shifts availability required.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Edit, proof and write organizationally consistent messaging for internal and external audiences.
  • Manage and update website content, including writing, editing and occasional HTML coding.
  • Develop and schedule engaging and timely social media content.
  • Coordinate the production of union-branded or campaign related merchandise, liaising with vendors, arranging artwork and samples.
  • Attend union and industry-related events and support in taking photographs, and posting timely updates to social media, when required.
  • Support the Communications Manager in the creation and updating of the union’s communications strategy as well as create, and support in the creation of campaign-related communications plans.
  • Act as deputy for the Communications Manager when operationally required
  • Administrative support to the Communications Manager, including scheduling, liaising with external and industry partners and taking notes for meetings, when required.
  • Create copy and coordinate advertising for publications within industry magazines, newsletters, and sponsorship packages.
  • Utilize graphic design skills to create captivating, on-brand visuals.
  • Develop, design, and edit program documents, reports, marketing materials, and presentations ensuring accuracy and alignment to brand.
  • Keep on top of emerging trends in communications and social media with the ability to apply them to functions of the role.
  • Other communications-related duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or relevant field
  • 3+ years of verifiable communications experience in similar role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and be a resourceful and creative communicator, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the aptitude to interact and connect with diverse audiences and provide professionally sound advice to senior management.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently develop creative content for various communication channels such as newsletters, social media, and reports.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the capacity to successfully manage multiple competing priorities in a high-volume and fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive and professionally experienced social media communicator, with particular focus on Instagram, X, Bluesky and LinkedIn.
  • Ability to take and edit event photography.
  • Industry knowledge considered a strong asset.
  • Understanding of union structure and processes considered an asset.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $38.19-$39.44 per hour
