Job Summary

Location: Yellowhead Regional Library (YRL), 433 King Street, Spruce Grove, Alberta
Reports To: Manager, Library Development Services (LDS)
Salary: $2,360 biweekly based on the 2025 salary grid and 35 hours per week.
Job Type: Temporary full-time from Sept. 3, 2025 to June 30, 2026 with the possibility of an extension.

Yellowhead Regional Library (YRL) is a “library for libraries.” We are a dynamic and forward-thinking library system, founded in 1971, that provides quality library services to 54 urban and rural municipalities and three school divisions in west-central Alberta. Our member libraries support a population of over 300,000 Albertans and almost 9,800 full-time equivalent students.

Located in Spruce Grove, our regional area stretches from the metro-Edmonton area west to Jasper, north to Swan Hills, Whitecourt, and Westlock, southeast to Wetaskiwin and New Sarepta, and southwest to Drayton Valley and Alder Flats.

YRL participates in several collaborative projects with other regional systems and is an active participant in partnerships (TRAC) along with provincial and national consortia (The Alberta Library, Canadian Urban Libraries Council).

Position Overview

YRL is seeking an energetic, proactive, customer-focused candidate to provide professional expertise, guidance, and support to our member public and school libraries with the LDS team. Responding to the needs of staff and boards, this position contributes to YRL’s goal of ensuring members have sustainable and effective library service. The LDS Librarian plays a significant role in portraying a positive image of YRL by establishing strong and respectful relationships with the staff at our member libraries and is often the first point of contact for support on all matters related to library operations and management.

Requirements

Broad tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Provision of professional support and expertise to member libraries in all areas of library management and operations.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing training opportunities using a variety of tools and frameworks.
  • Contributes to the development and management of value-added and shared resources, such as regional collections, programs, and services.
  • Contributes to the achievement of service goals by providing workplans, proposals and the development of departmental initiatives.
  • Represents YRL at regional and provincial levels.
  • Cooperates with colleagues for the achievement of YRL’s goals and strategic plan.

Qualifications

  • MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • One year of related library work experience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including delivery of training and presentations in a variety of formats and venues.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with a diverse population, balance multiple processes and priorities, adapt to changing environments, work independently, and manage time to ensure project completion.
  • Knowledge of legislation impacting public library operations in Alberta.
  • Proficient in a modern, technological library environment.
  • Proficiency in evaluation and impact analysis to inform decision making an asset.
  • Experience or understanding of adult learners and change processes an asset.
  • Experience with statistical reporting, technical support, and needs assessments an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s licence and the aptitude for travel to rural and outlying communities.
  • A commitment to upholding the Canadian Federation of Library Association statements on Intellectual Freedom and Libraries and Diversity and Inclusion.

Compensation:  $2,360 biweekly
