{"id":7116,"date":"2026-08-10T11:52:44","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobweb.fims.uwo.ca\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=7116"},"modified":"2026-08-10T11:58:01","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:58:01","slug":"the-general-synod-of-the-anglican-church-of-canada-toronto-16-archivist","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/jobweb.fims.uwo.ca\/index.php\/job\/the-general-synod-of-the-anglican-church-of-canada-toronto-16-archivist\/","title":{"rendered":"Archivist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Anglican Church of Canada \u2013 General Synod is seeking:<\/p>\n<p><strong>ARCHIVIST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Salary: Starting at $83 000 based on experience<\/p>\n<p>Full-time ongoing role \u2013 pension and benefits package<\/p>\n<p>Office located in downtown Toronto near Bloor \/ Yonge subway station<\/p>\n<p>This position will primarily work from the office.<\/p>\n<p>The Archivist preserves the official records and helps tell the story of The Anglican Church of Canada and its communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Archives have become increasingly important to Indigenous, rural, northern, faith-based, and other widely distributed communities across Canada. The archive contains items from the history of The Anglican Church of Canada over the past 500 years and will continue to acquire and share items in a variety of formats. Accessibility of records related to residential schools and the impact on Indigenous people and communities are a special focus of the archive.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will have experience and ideally leadership responsibilities in many of the areas below.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Manage the archives through effective acquisition, preservation, accessibility of the collection.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Provide technical and administrative support to ensure the archives continue to develop in areas such as policy development and implementation, adherence to cataloguing systems, and accessibility to individuals and communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Develop collection development priorities and facilitate the transfer of historically significant records.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensure sound environmental conditions for collections and develop strategies to conserve fragile and at-risk materials. Develop and maintain disaster preparedness and recovery plans. Develop and execute plans for moving the contents of the archive.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oversee digitization initiatives to improve access and preservation. Support the organization in the management of permanent and temporary electronic records.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Respond to archival inquiries and facilitate access to the collections.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Conduct historical research and provide information to support activities such as academic research, genealogical searches, publications, special projects and the work of healing and reconciliation. Prepare exhibits, presentations and educational materials.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Engage with partners such as The Canadian Church Historical Society, Indigenous communities, historians, academic institutions, museums, libraries and other archival organizations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications &amp; Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Masters degree in Archival Studies preferred. Degrees in Library Science, Information Science or Records Management will be considered with significant archival experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Significant archival experience in the areas described above.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Additional experience or knowledge that would be helpful includes:<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Confidentiality, privacy legislation, copyright, and access to information requirements.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Residential schools and the involvement of Indigenous people in The Anglican Church of Canada<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Anglican history, governance, and ecclesiastical records management.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Management or participation in moving the location of an archive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Working Conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Work is generally done in office and storage environments. Limited opportunities for hybrid work due to public access of the archive.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Regular lifting and carrying of materials up to 30 lbs \/ 13.5kgs<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Occasional travel is required and is planned in advance.
