Located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation, and arts amenities.<\/p>\n<p>The West Vancouver Memorial Library is seeking a Permanent Full-Time <strong>Head of Technology.<\/strong> Reporting to the Director of Library Services, this role manages the Technology Department and supports strategic planning, policy development, and service assessment across the organization. The Head of Technology also serves as the Library\u2019s privacy lead, ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA), including oversight of privacy practices, policies, and staff awareness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serving as the lead in the development of the Library\u2019s digital strategy, policies and procedures, ensuring that digital services meet the needs of staff and people in the community;<\/li>\n<li>Providing leadership for the overall planning, implementation and evaluation of infrastructure, applications, equipment, public service delivery and staff development in support of the digital strategy;<\/li>\n<li>Representing the Library and the public library sector in the broader community\u2019s digital evolution;<\/li>\n<li>Developing and deepening relationships with District IT, West Vancouver organizations and institutions, Lower Mainland technology businesses, funders and Provincial Ministries leading innovation, creation, and digital strategies;<\/li>\n<li>Staying abreast of developments in the technology field and making presentations to the Library Board and staff on trends, promising practices, and opportunities;<\/li>\n<li>Overseeing and coordinating the work of staff who are responsible for all library systems and discovery services, including the Integrated Library System, web development, content management, public computing, and digital learning;<\/li>\n<li>Overseeing departmental work plans, capital and operating budget requests, quarterly and annual financial reports, and evaluation reports;<\/li>\n<li>Leads implementation and ongoing maintenance of Library privacy policies and procedures to ensure compliance with FOIPPA requirements related to the collection, use, disclosure, storage, access, and correction of personal information;<\/li>\n<li>Responds to privacy inquiries, complaints, breaches, and access or correction requests, and designs and delivers staff training and guidance to promote privacy awareness and best practices across the organization;<\/li>\n<li>Assisting the Director of Library Services and acting as the Director in their absence;<\/li>\n<li>Participating in employee and labour relations matters, including participating in collective bargaining;<\/li>\n<li>Working closely with the Library Board and serving as a representative on Board committees or working groups;<\/li>\n<li>Participating in other duties and special projects as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The preferred candidate will possess knowledge of: the principles, practices, and organization of public libraries; planning and project management for technology infrastructure, applications and equipment; processes and practices for management of information systems, resources, and websites; the methods, techniques, and procedures related to digital services, implementation of programs, physical and digital collections, projects and policies; best practices for instructional design and delivery; and, community engagement and consultation, strong knowledge of privacy legislation including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, including principles and practices related to the collection, use, disclosure, access, correction, retention, and protection of personal information. The preferred candidate will also possess: strong facilitation skills; the ability to lead cross-functional teams in collaborative planning, implementation and evaluation of services and initiatives; superior oral, written and presentation communication skills; and superior interpersonal skills.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate has completed a Master\u2019s Degree in Library Science from an accredited Library school and\/or other relevant Master\u2019s Degree, plus a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience, including three (3) years of relevant management and\/or supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.<\/p>\n<p>A valid BC Driver\u2019s License and access to a vehicle are required.
