UTL continuously evolves to meet the changing academic priorities and pressures at the University and within the broader landscape of higher education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Department of Chemistry:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Department of Chemistry\u00a0is\u00a0a large research\u00a0and teaching intensive department within the\u00a0Faculty of Arts and Science\u00a0of Arts and Science. Undergraduate courses in the areas of introductory, analytical, biological,\u00a0environmental, inorganic, materials, organic, physical, and theoretical chemistry are offered to both\u00a0chemistry specialist and other students. Research in these areas is\u00a0accomplished\u00a0by both graduate and\u00a0undergraduate chemistry students in\u00a0state-of-the-art\u00a0facilities at the\u00a0centre\u00a0of the St. George Campus. The\u00a0A D Allen Chemistry\u00a0Library\u00a0enhances both the teaching and research missions of the department.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Opportunity\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The University of Toronto\u00a0seeks\u00a0an adaptable, forward-thinking librarian with a strong service\u00a0orientation\u00a0to join the Department of Chemistry as the Chemistry Librarian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As a solo librarian, manage all operations of the A.D. Allen Chemistry Library, including\u00a0public service, research and teaching support,\u00a0website\u00a0management\u00a0and maintenance,\u00a0and the physical space.<\/li>\n<li>Proactively engage with faculty, staff, and students to enhance the knowledge of and access to library resources and services.<\/li>\n<li>Partner with faculty to offer curriculum-embedded instruction and tutorials.<\/li>\n<li>Support students in the use of databases, citation management, and chemistry relevant\u00a0licensed\u00a0software such as\u00a0ChemDraw\u2122.<\/li>\n<li>Assist with Department of Chemistry outreach and professional development activities.<\/li>\n<li>Responsible for collection development, maintenance, and assessment for Chemistry for both the University of Toronto Libraries and the Chemistry Library.<\/li>\n<li>Actively partner with faculty and the Scholarly Communications and Copyright Office to explore evolving scholarly publishing, research data management, and open science practices.<\/li>\n<li>Provide guidance and support in meeting Tri-Agency and other funding agency requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Hire and supervise casual staff.<\/li>\n<li>Actively\u00a0participate\u00a0in relevant library or campus-wide committees or working groups.<\/li>\n<li>Work collaboratively with Chemistry-focused librarians at the Scarborough and Mississauga campuses in areas such as collection development and assessment,\u00a0orientation\u00a0and software support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master\u2019s degree in library, archival or information science from an accredited institution.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusivity, diversity, equity, anti-racism\u00a0and\u00a0accessibility.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated research skills and knowledge of scholarly publishing and research data management.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated research skills and knowledge of the key databases and information sources in the Physical Sciences.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of principles of information literacy and how they can be applied in an\u00a0academic\u00a0setting.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated training and presentation skills.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead multiple concurrent projects.<\/li>\n<li>Experience engaging in outreach activities with a diverse user community.<\/li>\n<li>Capacity to thrive in a dynamic collaborative environment with shifting needs and priorities of library and community partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relevant professional experience in an academic library setting.<\/li>\n<li>Experience supporting the development of diverse, inclusive, accessible learning\u00a0environments\u00a0and\u00a0programming.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Salary and Terms of Appointment:<\/strong> \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is a 1 year Contractually-Limited Term Appointment.<\/p>\n<p>It is anticipated that this position will be filled at the Librarian I\/II level, subject to review and experience. Minimum salary: LIB I: \u00a0$83,080; LIB II: \u00a0$ 86,687 (Salary is dependent on rank at hire and qualifications). The expected salary range is \u202f$ 83,080 &#8211; $86,687, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
