This role is accountable for strategic planning, library operations, people leadership, financial stewardship, governance support, and stakeholder relations. The Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, equitable, and innovative public library services that reflect Beaumont\u2019s rapid growth, diverse population, and strong Francophone heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Reporting directly to the Library Board, the Library Director serves as the Library\u2019s chief administrative officer and public representative, fostering partnerships that strengthen the Library\u2019s role as a community hub for lifelong learning, culture, and connection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Community Profile: Beaumont, Alberta<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beaumont is a vibrant and rapidly growing city located just south of Edmonton, offering the benefits of a close-knit community alongside access to a major metropolitan region. Beaumont\u2019s ongoing residential growth and expanding cultural landscape boasts over 50% of households with active library memberships, leading to exciting opportunities for the public library to evolve as a central gathering place that supports literacy, inclusion, creativity, and digital access.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Accountabilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategic Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide vision, leadership, and direction for library programs, services, and operations<\/li>\n<li>Develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned with Board priorities<\/li>\n<li>Monitor performance and report outcomes to the Library Board<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Governance &amp; Compliance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advise and support the Library Board in policy development and decision-making<\/li>\n<li>Ensure compliance with the Alberta Libraries Act, regulations, bylaws, and professional standards<\/li>\n<li>Manage organizational risk, policies, and reporting requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Financial Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prepare, administer, and monitor the Library\u2019s operating and capital budgets<\/li>\n<li>Ensure transparent and responsible stewardship of public funds<\/li>\n<li>Pursue grants, partnerships, and other external funding opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>People Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate library staff<\/li>\n<li>Foster a positive, inclusive, respectful, and high-performing workplace culture<\/li>\n<li>Support staff development, training, and succession planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Library Services &amp; Operations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oversee collections, programs, digital services, and technology<\/li>\n<li>Ensure services are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to community needs<\/li>\n<li>Champion intellectual freedom, privacy, and customer service excellence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Facilities &amp; Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure the Library facility is safe, functional, and welcoming<\/li>\n<li>Plan for lifecycle maintenance, capital needs, and technology upgrades<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Partnerships &amp; Community Relations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve as the Library\u2019s primary spokesperson and community representative<\/li>\n<li>Build strong working relationships with the City of Beaumont, schools, community organizations, donors, and regional\/provincial library partners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications (Screening Criteria \u2013 Must Have)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated leadership experience in a library environment<\/li>\n<li>Strong communication, organizational, and community engagement skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and legislation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Three (3) to five (5) years of experience at a management level in a public library;
