Wilfrid Laurier University Library is inviting applications to fill a 12-months, full-time limited term appointment (LTA) Liaison Librarian position to support Lazaridis School of Business and Economics.  The successful candidate will work with the other Liaison Librarian supporting Lazaridis School and will provide discipline-specific research assistance to students, faculty, and staff of Lazaridis School using specialized business and economic information resources. The Liaison Librarian for Business and Economics will engage in library instruction through individual and group consultations and will offer instruction in a classroom setting.  This position will be involved in collection development and in proactive outreach to Lazaridis School promoting Library resources and services.

This position will be appointed to both Waterloo and Brantford campuses with the primary office location being in Waterloo. The incumbent will also serve other Laurier campus locations where Lazaridis School of Business and Economics offers programming. Please note that travel may be involved.

The Laurier Library has a total staff of 63, including 21 librarians, and provides access to over 70,000 full-text online journals, indexes and e-books and more than 1.2 million print volumes. As part of the Omni Group of Libraries, Laurier students, faculty and staff may use and borrow materials from 16 member libraries across Ontario, including from local partners, the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo libraries. The Laurier Library has a strategic partnership with the Brantford Public Library to provide services and materials to users on the Laurier Brantford campus.

The Laurier Library serves 20,000 students in multi-campus environment at the Waterloo campus, the Faculty of Social Work at the Kitchener campus, and the Brantford campus and in Toronto.  The Library is undergoing a process of renewal and continuing change, and the current strategic plan can be found at http://library.wlu.ca/sites/shared-content/library-strategic-plan/library-strategic-plan.pdf.

Responsibilities

·         Serves as a liaison to the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics (LSBE) in assigned subject areas (may include economics, finance, supply chain management, policy, and the Business Technology Management Program in Brantford).

·         Provides research assistance to students, faculty, and staff using specialized business and economic information resources, including financial and economic datasets.

·         Provides proactive outreach and liaison services to support faculty and students in Lazaridis School of Business and Economics and promotes library collections and services to the faculty and students in designated departments/programs.

·         Develops, manages, and assesses the print and electronic business and economic collections.

·         Develops and delivers online and in-person library instruction to students, faculty, and staff.

·         Develops and maintains library user guides, course web pages and learning objects (including video tutorials.)

·         Trains other library staff on resources and topics related to business and economics.

·         Participates in shared library projects and activities.

·         Participates in professional and scholarly activities.

·         Serves on library and university committees.

·         May include some evenings and weekends.

 

Qualifications

Required

•         ALA accredited MLIS or equivalent

•         Demonstrated understanding of current library practice, including collection management, reference, and instructional services.

•         Demonstrated knowledge of trends and issues in business librarianship.

•         Recent experience providing in-depth business and economics reference services.

•         Experience delivering in-person and online instruction/training.

•         Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to develop creative ideas.

•         Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse and varied workload and to work effectively in a fast paced, changing environment.

•         Strong computer literacy, experience with web page creation and editing, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

•         Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

•         Demonstrated ability to form successful and collaborative relationships with diverse colleagues, faculty, students, and staff.

•         Excellent organizational and time management skills.

•         Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

•         Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to equity and inclusion.

•         Understanding of accessibility best practices and AODA standards.

 

Preferred

•         Master’s degree in a related discipline

•         Degree, diploma, or certification in business, or economics, or finance

•         Demonstrated work experience with specialized financial and economic databases (for example, Bloomberg Professional, Datastream, and Wharton Research Data Services)

•         Understanding of business, financial, and economic datasets

•         Experience with collection management

•         Work experience in an academic library

•         Familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy and experience providing library instruction

•         Professional or scholarly activity

Appointment and Compensation

The Liaison Librarian, Business and Economics position is a full-time, limited term (12 months) appointment which will be available from September 1, 2022. The appointment will be made at a level commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
