The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $75,755- $83,525 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
Performance range: starting salary to max of $98,528 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

Mandate:

The Communications Specialist reports to the Associate Director, Strategic Projects and Divisional Communications. As an integral member of the Marketing and Communications team within the Division of Student Affairs (STUA MarCom), the role is dedicated to student lifecycle communications, student storytelling, copywriting, and internal and external communications for the division.

This position plays a critical part in helping the division achieve its student recruitment and retention goals, with a dual focus on student recruitment storytelling and current student communications. The Communications specialist will work collaboratively with all members of the STUA MarCom team on creating compelling content for paid, owned, and earned channels.

  • Internal and leadership communications
  • Issues communications
  • Website management

Job Requirements

This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, PR, communications, or similar; plus 5 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills to produce compelling and on-brand communications.
  • Strong ability to bring content strategy to life through storytelling.
  • Experience in writing both short-form advertising copy and long-form articles.
  • Experience in working with various social media platforms.
  • Experience in writing briefing notes, key messages, speaking notes, and reports for senior executives.
  • Knowledge of interview techniques and comfort in interviewing a wide range of individuals.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating communications plans and materials.
  • Experience in crafting messaging in support of reputation and issues management.
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
  • Experience with basic website management (Cascade content management system).
  • Ability to apply project management best practices to achieve project goals on time.
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues, develop solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals and work effectively in a team environment.
