The USF Libraries Research & Instruction (R&I) department is committed to advancing high-impact research, innovation, and transformative learning. We partner with faculty and other academic units on the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee campuses on a wide range of collaborative teaching and research activities including: self-guided and librarian-led instruction on information and data literacy; professional development workshops that support faculty teaching and curricular development; workshops for researchers that provide tools and strategies that support all stages of the research process and enhance research impact and visibility; resources such as library guides, curated open resources and course material lists; curricular initiatives; and long-term collaborations with faculty on notable USF strategic initiatives.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The University of South Florida Libraries seek a Director to lead the Research & Instruction Department. The Director will be responsible for leading a dynamic team of liaison librarians, collaborating with the library R&I leadership on the St. Petersburg and Sarasota-Manatee campuses and must be well equipped to mentor a new cohort of librarians after multiple retirements and a revitalization of the department.
The Director serves as the point of contact for the department and builds partnerships with both academic and non-academic units to raise awareness of library research & instruction services. The position will require an accessible manager who sets clear goals, manages and evaluates performance, and shapes a positive workplace environment. Through data driven decision making the Director will assess and implement research & instruction initiatives, manage a departmental budget, and participate in library and university strategic initiative directions as appropriate. The successful candidate will actively foster an equitable and inclusive workplace and work effectively with a diverse university community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- An ALA accredited degree and a minimum of three years of related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of trends, methods, and best practices in supporting library research & instruction services.
- Demonstrated leadership in building and managing innovative library research and instruction programs or services.
- Technological fluency, a willingness to stay up to date with library trends
- Evidence of the ability to engage in scholarship and/or creative achievements as required for promotion.
Preferred Requirements
- A second graduate degree
- Demonstrated commitment to contributing to a culturally diverse educational and work environment.
- Experience teaching both synchronously and asynchronously.
- Ability to conduct programmatic assessments, environmental scans, and reviews of faculty, staff and student research and library instruction needs.
- Experience in mentoring and/or supporting the professional growth and development of academic librarians
- Experience in developing, designing, and delivering instructional curricula
- Experience with budget management and oversight
