The University of Alberta Library, with a long tradition of service excellence to the University and its communities, seeks a dynamic professional to join the Health Sciences Faculty Engagement team.

Working within a team environment, under the direction of the Head, Faculty Engagement (Health Sciences), the Librarian contributes to the Library’s services which may include teaching, research support, and support for digital scholarship, research data, metrics and other activities to help users in the discovery and use of library services and resources while demonstrating expertise in the use of technology to provide access to library services and collections.

  • The Librarian provides expert information services, including consultation and research support for faculty, students, and staff, and contributes to specialized services around digital scholarship, research data management and impact analysis.
  • The Librarian participates in system-wide teams, projects and programmes. The Librarian plans and delivers continuing education programs and provides in-service training to library staff.
  • The Librarian works collegially, cooperatively and in a self-directed manner to provide innovative, high quality services and programs to all university library clientele, and undertakes professional development activities to support these responsibilities.
  • The Librarian may participate in and seek opportunities for conducting professional and scholarly research, including the ability to apply for and hold research funding as a principal applicant.


  • A Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent is required
  • Previous experience in an academic library setting required
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practice and the broad array of health sciences information sources is required


  • Previous experience in a health sciences library including teaching and providing support for systematic reviews and evidence summaries is preferred
  • Experience developing and teaching systematic review workshops is preferred
  • Familiarity with new and emerging technologies (such as 3D printing, audio and video production, and virtual reality applications) in library services is desired
  • Experience integrating Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principles into instruction and service delivery is preferred

Applicants must also possess a strong service orientation, excellent communication skills, superior information management skills, and a commitment to cooperative and innovative solutions. Candidates will demonstrate evidence of the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment, and the ability to be flexible to changing circumstances. Candidates will possess a high level of competence with electronic information sources and new technologies, demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, organizational and analytical skills, leadership qualities, and evidence of ongoing professional development and involvement. Successful candidates will also be interested in and seek opportunities for conducting research and contributing to the profession.

This is a tenure-track position at the Librarian I level with a current salary range of $62,231 – $124,387. Librarians at the University of Alberta have academic status and participate in a generous benefits program.
