Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Professional Teaching and Learning Library, Reference and Online Services will assist in providing a timely and proactive Professional Library information and reference service that supports and responds to the teaching, professional research and administrative needs of all TDSB employees; provincial and TDSB education policies, procedures and curriculum development practices and changing technology as a means of organizing and disseminating information.
Summary of Duties:
➢ Provide a reference and information service that links the library user with the most appropriate information resource in the most appropriate format.
➢ Conduct reference interviews by phone, e-mail and in person.
➢ Provide answers to requests for information by searching all information sources: online catalogues, electronic indexes and databases, the internet and outside agencies and organizations.
➢ Maintain the Professional Library web page.
➢ Collaborate with the web design team to ensure that design is effective, current and complete, and searchable.
➢ Maintain the site by uploading new and current information about the library, its services and products.
➢ Maintain the online current awareness service, full text database services, and journal database.
➢ Troubleshoot hardware/software problems and communicate findings to appropriate IT or vendor representative.
➢ Assess and customize the information for relevance and appropriateness, and deliver value-added information packages.
➢ Refer users to TDSB contacts and outside agencies for additional information.
➢ Recommend interlibrary loan when necessary.
➢ Create bibliographies for various TDSB staff and departments including Trustees, Superintendents, Principals, Program Coordinators, Instructional leaders, Teachers, and curriculum writers.
➢ Provide direct instruction and promote library services.
➢ Instruct users in the use of library resources and the research process.
➢ Instruct end users in retrieving relevant information from Library Web site, online databases and internet.
➢ Advocate library services at in-services, workshops, meetings and displays.
➢ Evaluate and select electronic and print resources to assure quality, accuracy and relevancy.
➢ Review current education and library journals to be knowledgeable on current trends and resources. Collect and compile reference statistics.
➢ Analyze user trends and make recommendations to improve service levels.
➢ Prioritize and coordinate the efficient distribution of information requests amongst reference librarians and library assistants responsible for Inter-library Loan and duplication services.
➢ Act as user advocate by resolving information service satisfaction issues and problems with database or technology products.

➢ Take courses and training in computer and web-based applications.
➢ Instruct library staff and users in effectively searching the different systems and services.
➢ Remain current with evolving technology and its application to professional library setting.
➢ Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
➢ Master of Library Science, Master of Library and Information Science, or Master of Information Science with specialization in library with two years related experience in a Library environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
➢ Experience in the development and maintenance of online databases and internet web pages.
➢ Proven ability to communicate effectively to staff and external organizations.
➢ Proficient keyboarding and computer skills which include use of e-mail, internet, wordprocessing, database management applications and online library systems.
➢ Successful experience in Library functions such as reference interviewing, information organization and retrieval, database, online and Internet searching, cataloguing and classification.
➢ Prior experience in providing direction and instruction to Library staff and users.
➢ Prior success in maintaining, updating and troubleshooting library cataloguing systems procedures.
➢ Ability to plan presentations to promote library services at workshops, in-services and meetings.

➢Occasional travel across TDSB
Location: 3 Tippett Road (Hybrid Work Eligible) (Wheelchair Accessible)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Work Year: 12 Months
The TDSB follows a hybrid work structure where some employees may be able to work remotely at times, based on operational requirements. Please refer to Policy P103, Flexible Working Arrangements for more information.
Compensation: $43.67 – $51.41 per hour
