The Saskatchewan Library Association (SLA) is a province – wide non-profit organization that provides a voice for all library sectors; furthers the development of library service and, through libraries advances culture in the province. It is a member driven organization that provides information, advocacy, awareness, education, membership benefits and cultural opportunities for libraries, library workers and the public.The organization works to raise the profile and understanding of libraries throughout the province; enhance communication with others in the library and cultural community; increase engagement with other non-profit organizations; and build stronger relationships with funders and stakeholders.

Role of the Program Coordinator

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning and coordination of the SLA programs and special events throughout the year including: Saskatchewan Library Week (SLW), Freedom to Read Week (FRW), TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC), One Book One Province Saskatchewan, Culture Days, Book Spine Poetry, Continuing Education Grants, and SLA annual Libraries Conference. The role encompasses program development, delivery, evaluation, member surveys, fundraising support, and liaison with library workers throughout the province. Communication and collaboration with artists, writers, and related other non-profit organizations is necessary.

In addition, the Program Coordinator provides leadership and support to SLA Committees and works in collaboration with the Communications & Research Coordinator to ensure organizational needs are effectively met.

Typical Duties

  • In collaboration with representatives from the library community, plan and implement special events to be accessed by libraries and the public.
  • Seek sponsorships, liaison with sponsors and ensure appropriate sponsor recognition.
  • Primary contact for SLA grants to libraries and lead adjudication of SLA grant applications.
  • Provide leadership in the development of SLA communications including regular social media, newsletter, and website updates as well as special communications related to events.
  • Elicit feedback from members and the public on matters related to the mandate of SLA as related to programs and services provided.
  • Advocate and promote the purposes and activities of SLA, in consultation with the Executive Director, committees and Board of Directors.
  • Evaluate and revise projects and programs, and develop new programs, to meet the goals and objectives of SLA and public interest.
  • Provide leadership and/or liaison with members, member organizations and communities, and other agencies and organizations.

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary education preferably in library science, administration, education or related field;• Preferred familiarity with library systems and cultural organizations in Saskatchewan;
• Demonstrated experience working as part of a team;
• Demonstrated ability and experience in planning and coordinating activities;
• Demonstrated ability and experience in program or event planning;
• Experience in evaluating programs and services;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills including proficiency in office software;
• Experience working with diverse groups and promoting diversity;
• Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, project management and collaborative skills;
• Experience building effective, strong and trusting internal and external relationships;
• Fluent in English;
• Possess a current driver’s license; and
• Eligible to work in Canada.

Compensation:

The hourly compensation for this permanent part-time position is $25.00/hour.The SLA offers a comprehensive benefit and pension package. Flexible working arrangement – 28 hours/week.
