Job Summary:
The Digital Engagement Co-ordinator is responsible for developing and implementing social media content and campaigns designed to engage all audiences, while building the Ontario Tech University brand through storytelling. The incumbent is also responsible for creating and posting content and monitoring feeds on social media channels, with a specific focus on Instagram and TikTok. Reporting to: Director, Communications, Issues and Media Relations
Responsibilities/accountabilities:
Digital Asset Creation:
- Attend university events to gather video and photos for social media and news stories.
- Generate, research, and identify ideas for digital storytelling that highlight the success of our students, faculty, staff, researchers, alumni and more.
- Produce a variety of digital engagement assets including, but not limited to:
o GIPHY stickers
o Promotional graphics
o Shareable templates
Social Engagement Strategy:
- In collaboration with the Social Media Co-ordinator, generate ideas and develop social media campaigns that utilize all social channels, including written and digital content, which tell the university story, increase brand awareness, aid in recruitment efforts and boost engagement.
- Develop impactful photo and short-form video content for Instagram and TikTok, and post on channels.
- Community management duties including monitoring TikTok and Instagram, and responding to tags, mentions, and comments both in feed and through direct messages.
- Community engagement duties including proactive engagement through comments, shares, mentions and running giveaways.
- Monitor and analyze social media metrics to track performance and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Monitor trends and news relevant to the university and industry of higher education.
- Work with departments across the university to ensure brand alignment on social media and collaborate to support organizational goals.
Other Duties:
- Provide guidance to social media content generators across the university, including, but not limited to, media video production (e.g. scripting, tips to improve video quality, remote shoot direction when needed), written content and best practices, and serve as a subject matter expert on social media trends, tools and platforms.
- Monitor, report, and recommend improvements to existing channels.
- Embody Ontario Tech University’s tone and voice in all social media posts.
- Remain well-informed about university activities and events.
- Co-chair the university’s Social Media committee meetings.
- Co-supervise University Works students.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 1-3 years experience in related field
- Proven success with developing and implementing engaging social media campaigns, including written and digital content.
- Strong understanding of social media channels and optimal content by channel, particularly Instagram and TikTok.
- Demonstrated experience using: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, CapCut or Canva.
- Well-informed on current trends in digital video and social media.
- Experience using social media management tools (e.g. Meltwater, Hootsuite, Sprout Social) is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Thorough knowledge of AODA compliance as it relates to digital asset development.
- Superior organizational/multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
- An ability to adapt to changing priorities and projects.
- Client-centric and thorough understanding of target audience expectations.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Understanding of social advertising opportunities and processes is considered an asset.
Required Education:
- Minimum two-year diploma or degree in Digital Media Production, Communications and Digital Media or Social Media.
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered
- Verification of Academic credentials may be required
