Background

NAAG’s Communications Office coordinates media-related and public information activities for the Association, oversees publication of NAAG materials, and has oversight for NAAG’s website and social media content. Serving the members’ public information officers, the Communications Office also coordinates the Public Information Officer (PIO) Seminar, assists in materials production for national distribution, coordinates national press outreach, and provides communications consultation to AG offices and NAAG staff.

Position

 The communications manager supports the work of the NAAG chief communication officer (CCO). She/he will manage various communications projects, at times overseeing the work of the communications coordinator and working with outside vendors. The communications manager must possess strong organizational skills and pay close attention to detail with the ability to multi-task, work under deadline pressure, and adapt quickly to changing work priorities. Excellent computer skills, strong written and verbal communications skills, and a personable demeanor with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy are essential. Some travel may be required.  

Responsibilities

  • Develop and edit content for NAAG and NAGTRI, including website content, publications, videos, research, fact sheets, etc.
  • Manage and update content on the NAAG website, following best practices for SEO; serve as a liaison to other NAAG staff on website requests;
  • Manage and implement communications and marketing projects related to NAAG meetings and NAGTRI trainings, including participation on the Programming Committee, creating marketing campaigns, managing the announcement calendar, and working with the Director, Design, Production and New Media to create all supporting visuals;
  • Serve as a NAAG staff liaison with the Public Information Officers (PIOs)/Communications Directors in state and territory AG offices;
  • Coordinate communication campaigns for NAAG policy letters, in collaboration with NAAG Legislative Director and PIOs from participating states;
  • Partner with the Director, Design, Production and New Media on publication development;
  • Manage day-to-day media relations, in coordination with the NAAG PR firm, including handling media requests, writing media materials, and fulfilling publication/information requests from AG staff and general public;
  • Support the CCO in the development and production of podcasts and other multimedia channels;
  • Other tasks as assigned, based on the needs of the Association.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, media studies, digital arts or related area of study

SKILLS

Superior writing and editing skills. Advanced knowledge of AP Style and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Experience with WordPress or other CMS tools. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and other design tools. Familiarity with social media best practices. Experience with email marketing platforms, such as Informz.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

3-5 years of post-graduate professional work in communications, journalism, public relations or related area.
