Position Title:Reference, Teaching, & Learning Librarian

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
  • Experience in an academic library and a community college environment.
  • Education and/or experience with research at a post-secondary level as well as teaching and learning practices at a post-secondary level.
  • Experience with Open Education Resources.
  • Demonstrated commitment to user-centered approaches to work, teach, consult, and communicate effectively and compassionately with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience applying information literacy pedagogy, practice, and assessment techniques.
  • Experience in the design and delivery of instruction for traditional, blended and/or online learning environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement programming and outreach services for diverse users and various program areas.
  • Ability to use emerging technologies effectively in the delivery of services and instruction.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with roles of team leadership, managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An interdisciplinary undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Experience teaching classes and providing consultations in an academic environment.
  • Experience providing curriculum support to faculty and subject matter experts.
  • Experience applying quality guidelines in the curriculum development and review process.
  • Demonstrated engagement in professional and scholarly associations.
  • Familiarity with current issues and trends in library technology and information resources.

Job Description

Keyano College is a comprehensive community institution in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Keyano College is currently seeking a Reference, Teaching, & Learning Librarian. This position will join the Research, Learning, and Innovation team and collaborate with colleagues in Library Services and across campus. The successful candidate will be committed to learner-centered service as they lead the delivery of reference services, facilitate information literacy instruction, and assist in collection and resource development in assigned subject areas. They will support the Centre for Teaching and Learning in curriculum development, quality assurance, and open education initiatives. This position will include activities related to reference services, collection development, outreach, quality reviews and teaching and learning support to engage students and faculty across campus.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the provision of reference services, including training and development of resources for library staff and student assistants.
  • Provide reference and research support services to faculty and students, including in-depth consultations in all formats (chat, email, phone, in-person, and virtual).
  • Serve as primary support for the Center for Teaching and Learning, including curriculum development, quality assurance, faculty training, and providing guidance on topics such as copyright, academic integrity, and Open Educational Resources.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and deliver information literacy instruction in assigned discipline areas, including the integration of information literacy in program curriculum and course learning outcomes.
  • Responsible for developing and promoting library services and supports, in assigned discipline and program areas.
  • Responsible for collection, academic support development and maintenance in assigned discipline and program areas.
  • Strengthen Keyano College’s commitment to universal design for learning through training and awareness initiatives across campus.
  • Contribute to the delivery of library services to faculty, students, and staff through participation in collaborative initiatives such as instruction, resource sharing, committee service, and outreach.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Research, Learning, and Innovation department to advance the strategic priorities of the College and Library Services.

Other Duties:

  • Maintain currency on research, trends, and issues around pedagogy/andragogy, emerging technologies, and teaching and learning approaches that can be used in various delivery modes to support Keyano’s diverse learners.
  • Keep abreast of relevant emerging areas of interest and innovation on campus and in the fields of reference services and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Engage in ongoing self-directed learning and professional development to bring new technologies and methodologies into Keyano’s library services, teaching, research, and student success environment.
  • Represent the library in professional organizations and initiatives related to reference services, open education, and teaching and learning.
  • Advance the profession through engagement in scholarship and professional activities.
  • Actively participate in decision-making activities undertaken within the library and the College through collegial contributions to committees and other working groups.
  • Fulfilling other duties and disciplinary responsibilities assigned considering institutional priorities or the incumbent’s disciplinary knowledge and scholarly interests.

This position qualifies for the Northern Living Allowance of $1,040.00 per month. This allowance is reviewed annually and is subject to budget approval.

Advertised Salary

Faculty salary range is $71,785.48 to $121,523.99 per annum. Placement on the salary grid is reflective upon educational and experiential qualifications. Keyano College also offers an attractive health and benefits package.
