Now onto more specifics about the role:
The Library seeks an innovative, creative, and digitally-skilled liaison librarian to support teaching, learning and research for the University of Guelph-Humber’s programs in Early Childhood Studies and Community Social Services. A central part of the role is teaching information and digital literacy competencies to learners based on course learning outcomes and in consultation with instructors, with the goal of integrating and scaffolding content throughout curricula. With a focus on active learning and student engagement, the Librarian uses teaching methods and develops learning objects grounded in the Universal Design for Learning framework. Teaching modalities may range from in-person synchronous learning to hybrid and online asynchronous modules.
The Librarian is part of the research help team, assisting students, faculty, and staff with accessing and using library resources via our virtual, and chat/text (Ask a Librarian) service points. The incumbent accommodates individual and small group consultations with students and faculty who require research assistance. Developing and maintaining learning resources in all formats in assigned liaison areas is also part of the role, as is supporting program and course reviews, curriculum development support, and participation in scholarly communication activities. The Librarian builds relationships with faculty and administrators to facilitate awareness of library services and to learn about library-related needs and opportunities for collaboration.
The successful candidate will be part of the library’s marketing and communications team, working collaboratively to promote awareness of library services, collections, and spaces to students and faculty at both the University and Humber College. Designing and participating in outreach activities for all audiences is part of the portfolio. Recent projects have included a redesign of the University of Guelph-Humber library homepage, selecting and branding giveaways, and developing content for a student newsletter.
Working with the librarian and library administrative teams, the incumbent participates in service delivery and content development outside their liaison areas to support students’ academic success (e.g. academic integrity and citation supports, EDIB-related content, orientations). Special projects and participating in departmental, college, University of Guelph-Humber, and/or University of Guelph committees may also be part of this role. The Librarian shapes their teaching, collections, and research help practices using the core values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging throughout.
What you bring to the role:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an American Library Association accredited institution. Advanced knowledge of information and digital literacy skill development in post-secondary education is essential. A related undergraduate degree would be a strong asset, as would knowledge of D2L, Adobe Rush, and/or H5P.
