About the Role:
Global Edmonton is looking for a full-time Editorial Assistant to join their team. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the successful candidate would be responsible for providing support to the assignment desk, journalists, and other newsroom team members. The ideal candidate is a flexible multi-tasker and team-player with a positive attitude and a passion for news. This position may involve working a variety of shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. This is a Group C position under the current collective agreement.

- Providing support to newsroom staff as directed.
- Conducting research, chasing leads, fact-checking and updating editorial information.
- Shot-listing interviews and elements for daily news stories.
- Booking guests, assisting in ordering graphics and finding archive footage.
- Assisting in breaking news situations by chasing information to support online and broadcast producers and reporters.
- Helping to obtain permission to use pictures and video for all platforms during breaking news situations.
- Monitoring wires, radio and social media for stories and breaking news.
- Answering phone calls from the public and dealing with inquiries and news tips.
- Participating in editorial meetings and pitching stories.
- Performing other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
- Post-secondary education (or equivalent experience) in Journalism or a related field.
- Previous experience in a newsroom would be considered an asset.
- Excellent people skills with the ability to work independently and cooperatively in a rapidly changing environment.
- Motivated, independent, results-oriented, and professional.
- Confident in chasing interviews, conducting research, and other news-related tasks.
- Solid news judgment, with great research abilities and strong communication and news writing skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize, multitask and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites.
- Attentive to detail and committed to excellence.
