Processing Archivist – Paid Internship sponsored by Young Canada Works

Full-time contract (September 3, 2025 – Feb. 27, 2026)

35 hours/week, $22 hr

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP WITH YOUNG CANADA WORKS

This opportunity is created to provide a recent graduate with hands-on practical experience and to acquire knowledge and specialized skills while working in an archive.  During this 26-week full-time contract, the candidate will identify, and properly house nearly 4200 photographs and add descriptions into the database.  In addition, then intern will also research, write and create an exhibit for a small display cabinet for Fall Homecoming.

This internship opportunity is sponsored by the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage program.  Eligible applicants must have the legal status to live and work in Canada, be between 16 and 30 years of age and possess a graduate college or university degree.

THE ROLE

·        Create and enter RAD compliant descriptions for 4200 photographs, dated between 2001 and 2002, which have already been scanned and uploaded into the AtoM database

·        Add subject classification tags to each photograph description

·        As required, research where and why photograph(s) were taken and who is in the photograph(s)

·        Write the photograph number on the back of physical photograph and place photograph into an acid free Print File photograph sleeve. Place sleeve in an acid free file folder and Hollinger box for storage

·        Update photograph physical location and box number in each AtoM database description

·        Research, Write and create a small exhibit for Fall 2026 Homecoming

WHAT YOU BRING 

·        Post Graduate degree in a similar background

·        As per Young Canada Works, applicants must be between age 16 and 30

·        Interest in photography

·        Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

·        Strong computer skills

·        Experience working in an archives, library or museum setting is an asset

·        Familiarity with Rules for Archival Description (RAD) is preferred
